“Rob, I’ve got a great idea for a fundraiser – how about an outdoor cinema night!”
The venue for our first outdoor cinema event was perfect. The Tuckwell Theatre is a beautiful location. Organising the license to show the film took a while, but once that was arranged we marched on with promotion and selling tickets. Within 3 weeks we’d sold out! Thousands of people were made aware of The Wiggly Worm during the promotion of this event through use of social media and editorial in the press and 300 lucky ticket holders joined us in a fabulous evening of Tom Cruise and a trip down memory lane.
Sponsorship
We managed to obtain the buy in of 3 fabulous sponsors who had their logo on the cinema screen prior to the film starting as well on emails to all those attending, their logos and information on the event website, and the opportunity to hand out goody bags/flyers to 300 potential customers. Between them, they donated a substantial amount to the Charity in sponsorship of this event – so a huge thank you to Tiger, Future Advanced Manufacture and Creative Mettle.
Of course it wouldn’t be a Wiggly event without the Green Wiggly Machine serving up hot meals made from recycled food and hot drinks, very welcome on a cold evening. Add to that the professional singer I booked, who came along dressed in an officer’s uniform and stood up and sang You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling at the very same time Tom Cruise sang it to Kelly McGillis in the film, and the University of Gloucestershire’s volleyball team who, dressed in white T-shirts and shorts, emulating that iconic Top Gun moment and you definitely had a night to remember!
